Türkiye and France have formalized a new road map to enhance their defence and security cooperation, focusing on intelligence sharing, air defence, military training, and joint defence industry projects. This agreement, announced by Türkiye’s Defence Ministry, aims to create a structured framework for bilateral cooperation that aligns with the shared interests of both nations.

The road map outlines plans for regular security consultations and increased coordination against hybrid threats. It also emphasizes improving the compatibility of their defence systems. Additionally, the agreement includes joint training and capacity-building activities in third countries to bolster regional stability. Military cooperation will further expand through personnel exchanges between military academies, as well as port visits and exercises involving land, naval, and air forces.

Ankara and Paris are set to develop joint defence projects, enhance technology and information sharing, and boost collaboration between their defence companies. Bilateral defence meetings will occur alternately in each capital, with the inaugural session planned for the final quarter of 2026.

In a separate development, Türkiye’s Defence Ministry criticized Israel’s military activities in southern Syria, citing raids, detentions, and air and artillery strikes. Rear Adm. Zeki Aktürk accused Israel of breaching the 1974 Disengagement Agreement through excavation and road expansion activities near the separation line in Quneitra. He urged the international community to take action to safeguard regional peace and stability.

Aktürk also mentioned ongoing confidence-building initiatives between Türkiye and Greece. Military delegations from the two countries continue to engage in exchanges and discussions under their 2026 Confidence-Building Measures Implementation Plan.

Regarding border security, the ministry reported the surrender of one PKK member in the past week. Turkish security forces also apprehended 660 individuals attempting illegal border crossings and prevented another 1,383 from crossing. Since the beginning of 2026, authorities have intercepted 13,366 people attempting unauthorized crossings and stopped 53,870 others from entering illegally.
