Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan is set to visit the United Arab Emirates to engage in discussions centered around regional security, focusing on the ongoing conflict involving Iran and developments in Gaza and Lebanon. This marks Fidan’s second trip to the UAE since March, reflecting the growing importance of these diplomatic exchanges between the two nations.
During his visit, Fidan will emphasize the necessity for enhanced cooperation in the region to effectively address conflicts and minimize external interventions. A significant part of the discussions will likely revolve around ensuring the continued freedom of navigation through the strategically crucial Strait of Hormuz and the Bab el-Mandeb Strait, both vital to international trade.
The talks are expected to cover the situation in Gaza, particularly the implementation of the second phase of the peace plan, as well as the provision of humanitarian assistance and reconstruction efforts. Both Türkiye and the UAE, as founding members of the Board of Peace, are anticipated to coordinate their activities to support these initiatives.
Another key issue on the agenda will be maintaining ceasefires in Gaza and Lebanon, with both countries aiming to promote regional stability. The discussions will also include preparations for the next meeting of the Türkiye-UAE High-Level Strategic Council, which underscores the strategic partnership established between the two nations since 2023. Their first leaders’ meeting took place in Ankara in July 2025.
In terms of economic ties, the bilateral trade between Türkiye and the UAE reached $19.346 billion in 2025, positioning the UAE as Türkiye’s largest trading partner in the Gulf. This economic relationship further solidifies the importance of their strategic partnership in the region.
