Heavy rainfall is sweeping across Istanbul, causing concern over potential flooding, waterlogging, and disruptions to transportation. The Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality’s Disaster Coordination Center has indicated that the rain, which began affecting parts of the city earlier in the morning, is expected to intensify around 11 a.m. and persist through the afternoon before gradually easing by 4 p.m.
The recent weather shift has brought a sharp drop in temperatures, with morning readings around 14°C, which is below the usual seasonal averages. This change is attributed to the arrival of cooler air, which, when combined with warm, moisture-rich air near the surface, is likely to result in thunderstorms, lightning, and heavy showers.
Meteorological authorities have issued warnings for Istanbul and several provinces in the Marmara and western Black Sea regions. These warnings highlight the risks of sudden flooding, strong winds, lightning, and possible transport disruptions due to the adverse weather conditions.
Looking ahead, weather conditions are expected to improve starting Thursday. Temperatures are predicted to rise to around 21°C, with no significant rainfall in the forecast, offering some relief after the intense rainfall.
