Türkiye and Kyrgyzstan are poised to enhance their bilateral relations by focusing on trade, investment, transportation, and regional connectivity. This was the main outcome of the seventh meeting of the Türkiye-Kyrgyzstan Joint Strategic Planning Group, held in Ankara. The session was led by the foreign ministers of both nations, who expressed a mutual commitment to diplomatic resolutions for international disputes.
The gathering underscored the progress made in strengthening the ties between the two countries, with an emphasis on areas such as education, cultural exchange, and economic development. Plans were also discussed for upcoming reciprocal state visits by Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. Both governments expressed a strong desire to support new investment projects and improve conditions for businesses, indicating that economic collaboration remains a top priority.
A key topic during the discussions was regional connectivity. Kyrgyzstan emphasized the significance of the Middle Corridor as a strategic transport route, with plans to connect the China–Kyrgyzstan–Uzbekistan railway to this corridor. This linkage aims to enhance Kyrgyzstan’s access to European and Middle Eastern markets via Türkiye, thereby boosting trade prospects.
The talks also addressed global and regional security issues, with both countries reaffirming their dedication to resolving conflicts through diplomatic channels, dialogue, and adherence to international law. Kyrgyzstan lauded Türkiye’s efforts in regional mediation and expressed gratitude for Ankara’s support in securing a non-permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council for the 2027–2028 term. Türkiye’s assistance in this endeavor was highlighted as an example of its active role in fostering international cooperation.
On the international stage, Kyrgyzstan aims to promote dialogue among nations while advocating for the interests of landlocked developing countries, mountainous regions, and small island states. This commitment reflects a broader strategy to ensure that these nations have a voice in global discussions, highlighting Kyrgyzstan’s diplomatic aspirations and its partnership with Türkiye as a cornerstone of this effort.
